Romano Mine

The Romano Mine, developed by Lusorecursos Portugal Lithium, S.A., is a strategic project located in the municipality of Montalegre, in northern Portugal. It focuses on the extraction and processing of essential minerals for the energy transition, from which battery-grade lithium hydroxide will be produced, aimed at the battery industry for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
This is one of the first projects in Portugal to adopt a mine-to-product model, ensuring the entire production cycle — from mining to chemical refining — within a fully integrated system. In addition to lithium hydroxide, the project also foresees the recovery of valuable by-products such as quartz-feldspar blend and high-purity quartz, with applications in high-value technological and industrial sectors.
The project plays a strategic role in enhancing local identity, promoting territorial cohesion, and creating skilled employment. It is fully aligned with European policies on sustainability and strategic autonomy in critical raw materials, standing as a pioneering example of regenerative mining with a strong territorial identity.
