BIO

Chamirai Charles Nyabeze is the Vice President of Business Development at the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) and the Network Director of the Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA), where he leads national efforts to accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge mining technologies.

With a background in Mining Engineering and an MBA, Charles has over 20 years of experience driving innovation, ecosystem development, and strategic partnerships across Canada and internationally.

He has played a pivotal role in mobilizing over $640 million in innovation funding, supporting more than 50 advanced mining projects, and growing MICA’s membership to over 100 stakeholders, including major mining companies and SMEs.

As the Founder and CEO of NOBEEP, he also champions inclusive economic development for Black entrepreneurs in Northern Ontario.

Fluent in Shona and currently learning French, Charles is a passionate advocate for aligning mining innovation with community impact, national priorities, and global opportunity.

The Canadian Mining Innovation Ecosystem

Chamirai Charles Nyabeze will deliver a compelling overview of Canada’s mining innovation ecosystem, focusing on how the MICA Network—under the leadership of CEMI—is accelerating the commercialization of breakthrough technologies across the entire mining cycle. His presentation will spotlight transformative solutions currently funded through MICA that address critical industry priorities including increased productivity, energy efficiency, smart autonomous systems, and environmental risk reduction. He will also explore how innovation in areas such as circularity, critical minerals, ESG, and digitalization are helping Canada secure its position as a global leader in mining. Drawing from real examples, Chamirai will illustrate how these innovations are creating safer, smarter, and more sustainable mines, while supporting local supply chains, community engagement, and long-term economic resilience.
