BIO

Mark Burnett is the Europe Regional Director at the EITI International Secretariat, where he leads engagement with implementing countries across the region, including Albania, Armenia, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. In addition to overseeing country support, he spearheads the Secretariat’s global membership outreach and coordinates the EITI Board’s Outreach and Candidature Committee.

Prior to joining EITI, Mark headed the Energy and Climate Diplomacy Team within the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s Nordic Baltic Network. His earlier experience includes managing conservation and communications initiatives for the WWF Global Arctic Programme and serving as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State.

Mark holds a Master of Sustainability ALM degree from Harvard University and a BSFS degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He is also a certified Graduate Gemologist through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

EITI Implementation in Europe: Transparency and Multi-Stakeholder Engagement in the Mineral Sector

The presentation will introduce the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), explain how countries in Europe are implementing the EITI Standard and using the multi-stakeholder initiative to advance national priorities including to secure sustainable critical mineral supplies.
