We cannot continue with our illusion that far-shoring these activities outside of the EU eliminates the environmental & CO2 implications!

We need to wake up to the fact that hashtagmining across Europe is a vital pillar for a sustainable modern lifestyle & our green transformation – and raw material import dependance is making us dependent and vulnerable to blackmail!
This was the core theme of this year’s
hashtagMINEXEurope conference in Lisbon (Portugal) with engaging discussions covering iron, copper, magnesium, lithium, rare earths … and magnesite & magnesia.
hashtagMagnesia is critical not only for the production of Steel, Cement, Glass and Copper, but also for the Processing & Recycling of more than 30% of the materials currently on the list of hashtagcriticalrawmaterials of the EU.
Yet Magnesia itself is not yet included on the list of critical raw materials from the EU, despite >80% of our European supply coming from Far East…
It is time to change this – with an EU delegated act!
It is time to change our perception towards mining! As responsible consumers and citizens of a strong EU, we cannot continue living in this illusion!
